Hi! I’m Sheila. Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a mom. The path of adoption has given me a ray of hope that was not there before and I'm so thankful to be on this journey.
I strive everyday to be a more a compassionate and open minded person then I was the day before. I hope to instill these values in a child, and raise them in a loving, stable and warm home. I will foster their creativity and their soul will be encouraged to explore the world around them.
Education is also very important to me, and I hope to provide a child with every opportunity to make their dreams come true. I will encourage them to follow their heart and guide them to take the path that is the clearest to them and their future goals.
Although I am adopting as a single parent, I assure you I am not alone on this journey. Any child that joins my family will be surrounded by infinite love, warmth and unconditional support from not only myself but my family and friends.
I was born and raised in a small town in Connecticut, where I still reside today. I have an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. For the past twelve years, I have worked at a psychiatric facility for children who struggle with developmental and emotional disorders. I am a lead Mental Health Worker, which means I provide care and support to the children and their families. I strive everyday to help them make their life worth living goals a reality and help to transition them back to the community as contributing members of society.
At times, my struggle with infertility has made it hard for me to be as present and emotionally available as I need to be in my job, as well as other aspects of my life. The path of adoption has been very healing for me in so many ways. I have found a new hope that has added a spark to my life that I had been missing! This journey has given me so much look forward to, opportunities and experiences I've dreamed about my entire life.
More About Sheila -
I am the oldest of two children. My parents, my brother (and his family) live only a few miles from me. I am very close to all of them especially my two nieces - who I love as if they were my own! They are six and four years old. I cannot believe what amazing , creative, kind, beautiful little souls they have become. They both love babies and can’t wait to meet their new cousin!
My parents still live in the house where my brother and I grew up. We also have a beach house on the Connecticut shoreline. It is such a beautiful place to explore! We spend a lot of time together there enjoying the beach, having parties and picnics all summer long. I can't imagine a better way to spend the summer than with your whole family at the beach. I can just imagine a child having picnics, building sandcastles and looking for seashells all day long with their cousins. Then having a bonfire and roasting marshmallows and playing hide and seek until bedtime!
Holidays are a big deal in my family, especially Christmas Eve. On that special day, we all get together to celebrate with tons of food, desserts and lots of presents! All of the kids run around and play with their cousins. We read The Night Before Christmas and all of the kids open their presents. This is our favorite part - watching their faces as they rip and tear, seeing how excited they are about their gifts.
Winter is a busy time for my family. Not only do we have big celebrations for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but both my nieces birthdays are right around that time as well. This means that there is nothing but parties and presents during the winter! My nieces love parties. They love getting all dressed up with bows in their hair! And it‘s not just the presents. They love the planning, decorating, and helping bake the cakes and the food. They really just love family parties! They will be such a big help to me when I have birthday parties to plan for a little one.
I live in a single-family home in a quiet, family-centered community. The neighborhood has beautiful landscaping, barns and waterfalls. There are walking trails throughout as well as an elementary school. It really is a perfect place to raise a child!
If you were to come visit me in my home, you would definitely find me in the kitchen. I love to cook and prepare fresh, organic food. If I am not in the kitchen, I am either in the breakfast nook enjoying a cup of coffee or taking a walk around the neighborhood.
My community has an artsy feel to it. It is home to beautiful liberal arts college. The culture and diversity that the college brings is incredible! My home is within walking distance to campus and downtown. We have a wonderful library, a children's museum, and a toy store full of trains, dolls and books. There's also a community center that has art programs and music lessons, and put on plays and musicals throughout the year. I cannot wait to expose a child to all the culture and diversity this community has to offer!
As I mentioned earlier, my family has a beach house where we spend most summers. It’s my favorite place to be! It's a three bedroom ranch with a big back yard right across from the beach. I love to wake up in the morning and drink my coffee looking out onto the ocean, watching my nieces build sand castles and look for seashells on the beach.
Most summer days are spent by the ocean and nights by the campfire laughing and talking. It’s really special to be able to spend time with my family and to enjoy the little things. We often go to the shopping outlets and the movies which are right down the road. Their are also farmers markets, concerts on the green, as well as carnivals and fairs on the weekends. I cannot wait to experience summers at the beach with a child! I want nothing more to watch them grow up and fall in love with the ocean, just as I did as a child.
Although we have never met, you have a very special place in my heart. I admire your strength more than you know. You are doing something that I could never do and you are making someone’s dream come true by making them a mother. This is amazing act of love. It warms my heart and I am truly humbled by it.
If I am chosen to walk this path with you, I promise that your child will know you and just how much you love them. If you so choose, I’d be more than happy to incorporate you into our lives and keep you updated over the years. I promise I will honor this commitment and always remind the child just how special you are to our family.
I hope, above all else, that you can find a sense of peace in yourself knowing you have put the needs of your baby above all else. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, and I am truly blessed to be on this path. From the bottom of my heart, I hope you find what you're looking for on this journey.
